Divorce within the congregations of Evangelical and Reformed churches can be a dicey subject. Whether leaning conservative or liberal, a very thick line often gets drawn over the subject of divorce, and it is a line one crosses only at one’s peril. One of the most interesting facts is the divorce rate among Christians is often slightly higher that that in the secular world. However, it seems to be a taboo subject. It’s not to be talked about, not be dealt with, not to be brought into the Light where perhaps we can all learn from our mistakes. The New Lepers is committed to being a robust conversation of how all of us who are followers of Christ can do better when confronting the prospects, or reality of divorce, either in our own lives, or in the lives of our friends and family.
We invite you into this conversation. If you have a “Divorce and The Church” story you’d like to share, please comment on this initial invitation and we will engage you, privately, off-line before this conversation kicks in for real, June 5, 2011.
We look forward to meeting you, getting to know you, hearing you. And if at all possible helping you.
